Committees/Volunteer Opportunities
The Mayor and four members of the Board of Trustees are elected volunteers who receive no compensation for their work.
Many of our residents volunteer their time to serve on the Village committees which range in activity from arts to land use to recreation. If you would like to volunteer, please send a resume and letter of interest to the Village Clerk’s Office, 120 Larchmont Avenue.
BOARD OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW
Responsible for reviewing all proposed exterior construction in the Village, both residential and commercial. Its mission is to preserve and promote the character and appearance of the Village. In the course of its review, it seeks to encourage attractive and appropriate exterior building design schemes and to relate such design and appearance to the sites and surrounding structures.

COMMITTEE ON THE ARTS
Responsible for organizing the annual Summer Concert in the Park series as well as the annual outdoor art exhibition. The concerts take place on Thursday evenings in July in Flint Park. The outdoor art exhibition is usually scheduled for a weekend day in the Fall and is held in Constitution Park next to Village Hall.

BOARD OF ASSESSMENT REVIEW
Responsible for hearing complaints about real property assessed value. The Board has the power to decide either to reduce or retain the assessed value, but not the power to raise assessments.

BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
Responsible for street flowers and flower pots, for the Haigney Memorial Garden (found at the corner of Pine Brook Drive and Palmer Avenue, and for making annual Beautification Awards to local stores for their holiday decorating. The Committee pays for its plants and decorations with funds raised from annual garden tours, stationery sales, and the placing of memorial markers in the Gazebo.

FINANCE AND BUDGET COMMITTEE
Responsible for assisting the Mayor and the Village Board in the annual spring budget process. The Committee typically seeks to help find ways to lower costs and improve services.

BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT COMMITTEE
Responsible for investigating the possibility of creating a business improvement district in Larchmont.

CABLE TV ADVISORY COMMISSION
Responsible for advising the Tri-Municipal Cable Television Board of Control, which handles the relationship between the Village of Larchmont and its neighboring municipalities, the Town and Village of Mamaroneck, as well as the cable television operators and LMC-TV, the local independent public access television organization.

LARCHMONT-MAMARONECK COASTAL ZONE MANAGEMENT COMMISSION
Responsible for advising on whether local projects in Larchmont and the unincorporated area of the Town of Mamaroneck are consistent with the municipalities' Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan. The Commission may provide technical input on such projects to minimize impacts, improve environmental conditions and promote the policies of the plan.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY GROUP
This Committee acts as liaison to the Westchester County Planning Department in connection with that department’s role as administrator of Federal HUD programs. Its members assist the county in evaluating grant applications and represent the Village in its applications for Community Development Block Grant funds.

COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT
This Committee was established to advise the Board
of Trustees on a variety of environmental issues affecting the Village, including local, state and national environmental regulations; the development of sound environmental policy and practices; and the interaction and liaison with other community and government organizations on environmental issues (Sheldrake Environmental Center, CZMC, etc.).

FACILITIES & PROJECTS MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE
This Committee was established to assist the Board from time to time with specific repair, maintenance or other matters relating to the Village's physical plant. Their expertise and knowledge in many diversified areas, from street lighting to generators to name a few, allows the Village to maintain and, when necessary, improve its existing facilities.

TRI-MUNICIPAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
This is a tri-municipal commission with representatives from the Villages of Larchmont and Mamaroneck and the unincorporated area of the Town of Mamaroneck. It performs an “ombudsman” function with respect to human rights complaints. It may investigate, mediate or refer the matter to the State Human Rights Commission. It also serves a community educational function, sponsoring the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award Program each year in January.

LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Responsible for setting policies for maintaining and operating the public library, the Board has seven members, four appointed by the Village and three appointed by the Town. The Board sets policy for the library and has legal responsibility, and obtains its funding from the Town and Village Boards.

COMMITTEE ON THE ISSUE OF OPEN SPACE
This Committee was created to identify parcels of land in the Village that may be suitable for use as open space or parkland, to assess the viability of acquiring and maintaining any such parcel for such purposes and to make recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

PARKS & TREES COMMITTEE
Responsible for protecting, enhancing, and increasing the Village's shade canopy, for improvements in our parks and other public spaces.
The Committee is also the sponsor of the annual Arbor Day event and "Bark for the Park".

PLANNING BOARD
Responsible for reviewing all site plans and subdivision applications in the Village, both residential and commercial, to ensure that they are consistent with the Village’s land use and development needs. Its review includes matters such as lighting, parking, drainage, traffic flow, and plantings. Its goal is to apply sound and consistent community planning principles to ensure harmonious development.
The members of the Planning Board are also members of the Freshwater Wetlands Commission, which is responsible for reviewing any development which would affect freshwater wetlands located in the Village.

RECREATION COMMITTEE
Responsible for most of the fun activities in the Village. It organizes and conducts the annual Larchmont Run/Walk, the Spring Pet Parade, the July 4th festivities, the Fall Ragamuffin Parade, and the Fall Bike Tour de Larchmont. In addition, Flint Park Summer Day Camp, the tennis and paddle tennis instructional programs are planned and overseen by committee members.

COMMITTEE ON TELECOMMUNICATIONS & TECHNOLOGY
This Committee is responsible for advising the Board on technological developments which would be helpful in improving the Village’s efficiency in delivering services, including Village communications, internet use, and the Village web site.

TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The Traffic Commission is an independent commission responsible for traffic regulations in the Village, including matters relating to one-way streets, speed limits, placement of stop signs and other traffic-related signage, as well as on-street parking and off-street parking rules. (The Commission does not set the amounts of fines and fees – this is done by the Village Board.) The Commission responds to requests from residents, including installation of stop or traffic regulation signs, changes to parking rules in a particular location, alteration of speed limits in a given area, etc.

ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
The Zoning Board of Appeals hears all requests for variances from the Larchmont Code of Zoning Code as well as requests for special permits under those regulations. Members of the Board make on-site inspections to assist in evaluation of all applications, including issues of hardship, character of the neighborhood, change of use, etc., and follow specific guidelines in making their determinations.

COMMITTEES WHICH MEET PERIODICALLY AS NEEDED:
There are several Village Committees which will only convene a meeting if a matter requiring their attention comes up. While these committees may not require a large commitment of time from their members, it is nevertheless important to have them in place should their oversight be needed – our thanks to those members!
